GISdev SRL does not practise a regulated profession and its activity is not subject to a prior authorisation scheme. Website hosting is provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States.

2. Privacy

GISdev SRL is the controller for any personal data processed through this website, within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, as we are not required to; write to info@gisdev.eu for anything on this page.

What this site does with your data

Your position on the map

If you press Use my position, your browser asks you for permission and then hands the coordinates to the page. They are converted into the other coordinate systems inside your browser and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, never stored, and never written to disk. Closing the tab discards them. Because the data never reaches us, we do not process it and there is nothing for us to keep, disclose or delete.

The Copy link to this view button is built the same way. The link it produces records the projection, the camera angle, the two countries being compared and which layers are switched on — and deliberately not your position, so sharing a view never shares where you were standing.

Server logs

The site is served as static files by our hosting provider, which logs technical data for delivery and security: IP address, the page requested, timestamp, and browser user-agent string. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating the site securely and reliably (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The provider acts as our processor under a data processing agreement, and transfers outside the European Economic Area are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Logs are retained for the short period set by the provider's defaults and are not used to profile visitors.

If you write to us

Email you send to info@gisdev.eu is processed to answer you and, where relevant, to manage the commercial relationship that follows (Article 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). We keep correspondence for as long as it is useful for that purpose and for the retention periods Belgian accounting and tax law impose on the documents that result from it.

What this site does not do

There is no contact form, no newsletter, no account, no advertising, no profiling and no automated decision-making. We do not sell or share personal data. The page loads no third-party resources at all: fonts, map data and code are all served from this domain, so no request is made to any other company as a side effect of your visit.

Your rights

You may request access to your personal data, its rectification or erasure, restriction of processing, and portability, and you may object to processing based on our legitimate interest. Write to info@gisdev.eu. We answer within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian supervisory authority: Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit, Rue de la Presse 35 / Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, contact@apd-gba.be, +32 (0)2 274 48 00.

3. Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookies. It uses no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting and no analytics of any kind, and it makes no request to any other company.

It writes exactly one thing to your browser's local storage, and this is it:

Key
gisdev:compare-state
Value
deployed, retracted or stowed
Purpose
Remembering how far you folded the comparison panel open
Written
When you press the satellite that folds it
Kept
Until you clear this site's data in your browser

It holds no identifier, nothing about you, and nothing that could be used to recognise you. It stays in your browser: we never read it, because nothing on this site is ever sent to us. Clearing site data for this domain removes it, and the page works exactly the same without it.

Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC, implemented in Belgium by Article 129 of the Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications, requires consent before storing information on, or gaining access to information stored in, your device — unless it is strictly necessary for a service you explicitly requested. Remembering a display setting you yourself chose, by pressing the control that sets it, is the user-interface customisation the exemption is written for; it is not used for any other purpose. So there is no consent to collect and no banner to click away. Geolocation works the same way: it is read only after you press the button that asks for it, and your browser gates it behind its own permission prompt.

4. Terms of use

Content and accuracy

The map, the coordinate conversions and the figures on this site are provided for information and demonstration. The conversions are implemented from the published formulae and tested against reference implementations, but this site is not a surveying instrument and nothing on it is certified for navigation, legal boundary determination or any other use where an error would matter. Verify anything you intend to rely on.

Intellectual property

The name GISdev, the logo and the design of this site belong to GISdev SRL. Coastline data comes from Natural Earth and is in the public domain. The libraries d3-geo, topojson-client and world-atlas are used under the ISC licence, and the typefaces Instrument Serif and IBM Plex Mono under the SIL Open Font Licence.

Liability

We take care over this site but do not warrant that it is complete, current or uninterrupted. To the extent permitted by law, GISdev SRL is not liable for indirect or consequential damage arising from its use. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Work performed under contract is governed exclusively by the signed agreement, not by this page.

Applicable law

Belgian law applies. The courts of Brussels have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory rule that gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

5. Accessibility

We build to EN 301 549, the harmonised European standard for accessible ICT, which adopts WCAG 2.1 level AA. This site is tested against WCAG 2.2 level AA and currently reports no automated violations, on both the desktop and mobile layouts of every page.

That is a statement of what we do and what we measured, not a certified conformance claim: automated testing catches only part of what the standard asks for, and we have not commissioned an audit. Known limits: the map is visual by nature and has no equivalent for a screen reader, though every figure it produces is also given as text. The page works from the keyboard throughout and honours prefers-reduced-motion.

The European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) applies from 28 June 2025 to consumer-facing services such as e-commerce. This site sells nothing and is not covered by it; we hold to the standard anyway, because our clients are bound by it and because it is the right way to build.

If something here does not work for you, write toinfo@gisdev.eu and we will fix it.
